“Steve, at check-in, was so helpful and great to deal with. He went over the property amenities, including beach chairs and sand toys for the beach. With two kids, 4 and 7, it was so lovely to have. The room was nice and clean. We went to the beach, about a 7-minute walk from the door to the water. Then we came back and had dinner at the restaurant, and Craig, the waiter, was also top-notch. It was a great place to stay while in Carlsbad. Also, use Carlsbad good ride! Fantastic service for the area, free rides to popular spots around Carlsbad; remember to tip the hard-working, personable drivers. ”

“I was pleasantly surprised the condition of this hotel. Although it sits in the middle of two nasty hotels, Don’t let that deter you from staying here. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating to my needs. Check in was a breeze. By far the fastest and smoothest check in I have ever experienced. This place has it all. Ice machines on every level. Swimming pool and jacuzzi are fully functioning and clean. The room I stayed in was fantastic. Lovely ocean view. Quiet and relaxing. Very convenient parking with electrical car chargers. I absolutely love it. I’m only disappointed I didn’t find it sooner. And I’ll be honest, the two hotels next to it (La Quinta : is roach infested and Motel 6 : ghetto and lots of activity all night long) almost kept me from even given the Best Western a chance. I’m so glad I chose this hotel and will be renting here more often. ”

“First off, this hotel is right across the street from a legitimately great beach (in fact a state park), and it is the best beach I've been to in California for playing in the waves without dealing with lots of rocks or undercurrent. Be aware that not all beaches in Carlsbad are equal, and another we visited a few miles north was pitiful. So if you want a beach across the street from your hotel, Cape Rey is where you want to be. The hotel itself is quite nice - situated a bit oddly next to a housing development and nothing else, it definitely feels isolated, but the facilities are good, especially the pool. Plenty of space for kids to play. The rooms are excellent as well. The restaurant (Chandler's) was unfortunately mediocre - service was friendly but extremely slow, food was so-so, and the price was ludicrous. That's what you get for having nothing within walking distance other than a beach. My advice: come for the beach (and pool), but drive somewhere else for all your meals.”
